New Zealand

Germany, I mean, New Zealand, is probably one of, if not the, most beautiful country I have ever seen. It’s a perfect example of what would happen if Switzerland and Canada were to have a child that landed in the pacific ocean, and its full to the brim with Germans.
I liked the north island better. Shock. Gasp. Hand on heart. I know, its not said very often but that’s just the way it goes….the south island was beautiful and we had an amazing time in Christchurch with the Bigsby’s who took us all around the town, and out in their boat (we saw dolphins!) and to the park to watch fireworks etc etc(this was before the second horrible earthquake happened-my heart goes out to all the families affected!) but since Andi’s thrombosis we weren’t doing any hiking (and let’s be honest we like hiking ok and all but we aren’t avid trekkers) and Andi didn’t have a fishing rod to do any fishing so the south island was just a lot of driving. Although the scenery was breathtaking! Another really frustrating thing was that because there aren’t that many towns on the south island, whenever you get to one its inevitably going to be a tourist town and everything was soooo expensive. I’m all about people making a living but sometimes the prices were just so ridicules we really felt like they were trying to rob us in broad daylight. Another surprise was the fact that there is almost no more “free camping” allowed in New Zealand due to ignorant tourists shitting + pissing wherever they felt like it (close to water sources contaminating drinking water, on hiking trails etc) and leaving their garbage everywhere. I hate that a few stupid people have ruined it for the rest of us!!
But we did get to go fishing for blue cod in the Marlborough sounds (AMAZING!), and the ferry ride from Picton to Wellington was beautiful at sunset! And I don’t have enough good things to say about the Kiwi people themselves, I have never ever ever experienced such friendly, helpful and all around good people. I hope that never changes since it was like a breath of fresh air. Really.
After hopping around the north island, going to hot springs, camping on the ocean, drinking lots of wine with our 70+ year old friends we arrived in Auckland for our last few days. I love Auckland. Love it. Deb was nice enough to let us crash at her house for the weekend, and it was soo nice to finally meet her in person since we had only known each other “virtually” for a couple of years and Barry and her were so wonderful to us. They took us out to a beach with live music, drove us all over Auckland and even took us out fishing for snapper in their boat (blue cod and snapper- don’t make me pick a favourite but I have never had better fish in my life!) it was a perfect ending to our time in New Zealand.

Jep, Neuseeland ist ein grossartiges Land! Man steht hier direkt vor einem Gletscher und im nächsten Moment ist da der Regenwald. Es hat hier keine gefährlichen Tiere und auch die Leute sehen hier nicht so aus, als wollten sie gleich einen ausrauben. Trotzdem gab es auch hier ein paar Sachen, welche hier kurz erwähnt werden sollte, falls ihr mal nach Neuseeland fahren solltet. Erstens: Man spricht DEUTSCH unter den Touristen.... Ich glaube, es gibt nicht mal in Deutschland so viele Deutsche wie in Neuseeland! Zweitens: Da es auf der Südinsel geschätzte 15 Orte gibt, ist alllllleeesss sehr touristisch. Will man zudem etwas spezifisches sehen, muss man immer gleich eine ganze Tour buchen, welche saumässig teuer ist. Beispiel: Ich wollte den Filmset des neuen Hobbitmovie ansschauen. Das konnte man aber nur buchen, wenn man eine Tour fuer 70$ buchte., In dieser Tour sah man eine Schaaffarm und einen traditionellen Bauernhof... Verdammt, ich will nur den Movieset sehen und nicht noch einen Schaaf-Fi** dazu!!!! Naja, mit der Zeit haben wir uns gemerkt, dass man immer die Einheimischen Fragen sollte. Die Neuseeländer sind bis jetzt das netteste Volk, welches ich in meinem Leben kennengelernt habe. Da wird man auf einen Angeltrip eingeladen oder bekommt von einem Fremden frischen Fisch. Andere Wiederum haben uns spontan zu einem Glas Wein eingeladen. Dadurch muss i Ccc sagen, ist Neuseeland von den Leuten her sicherlich ein Highlight und jedem zu empfehlen.
Gerade wegen den netten Leuten, fühlten wir uns sehr schlecht und bekümmert, als das verheerende Erdbeben passiert ist und man kann von Glück sprechen, dass wir nur kurz zuvor weggegangen sind. Man kann sich nicht vorstellen, was dieses Gerüttel für eine Katastrophe hervorgebracht hat. Jedes 3 Haus ist komplett zerstört und es gibt viele Leute, welche in Christchurch nun obdachlos sind. Man ist sich momentan nicht mal sicher, ob man die Stadt wieder aufbauen soll, oder andere Lösungen suchen sollte.... S wird sicherlich interessant die Entwicklung weiter zu verfolgen...
