Nachdem wir Sydney verlassen haben, sind wir zu einer Kollegin von ihr, nach Bathurst gefahren. Hier in Bathurst gibt es eigentlich nur 2 Dinge zu tun; Bier saufen und auf Pferde oder Hunderennen zu wetten. Man kann sich leicht vorstellen, dass gewisse Leute da schnell Geld verlieren (Alkohol und Spielwetten vertragen sich nicht sehr gut…). Ich meinerseits habe erst am späten Abend auf ein Pferd gewettet. Nachdem das rennen fertig war und ich von Roni eine Standpauke betreffend des gewetteten Geldes erhalten habe, hat sie sich doppelt über den Gewinn von stolzen 34$ gefreut. Dieser Betrag fliess jedoch umgehend in eine neue Runde Bier.
Nach diesen 2 lustigen Tagen haben wir uns dann auf die Reise an die berühmte Gold Coast gemacht. Erster grosser halt war hier Bayron Bay. Naja was soll ich sagen, Tourismus und besoffene Teenies. Daher sind wir nach der Stadtdurchfahrt gleich weiter gefahren. Am Surfers Paradise haben wir dann mehrere Tage mit Wassersport (Kite surfen) und Themenparks (Wet`n wild, Warner movie world, Seaworld) verbracht.
Nachdem wir uns vom Surfers Paradise verabschiedet haben, sind wir Richtung Sunshine Coast (Sonnenschein Küste) gefahren. Die Sonne schien tatsächlich jeden Tag... jedoch nur für 5 Minuten... Da wir jedoch in Südamerika ein nettes Pärchen kennengelernt haben, bei welchem wir eine weile bleiben konnten, war das gar nicht sooo schlimm. PS: Danke Papi für die Dose Schnupf, welche hier sehr gut ankommt!
Nach ein paar Tagen sind wir dann auf die Fraser Island gegangen. Sehr schöner Ort. Ganz ehrlich gesagt, habe ich jedoch auf dieser Reise schon bessere Orte gesehen. Nichts vergleichbares waren jedoch die Whitsundays! Diese Inseln, welchen auch das Great barrier Reef angehört, waren einfach der Hammer! 2 Tage und 2 Naechte waren wir auf einem Segelboot und haben allerlei Tiere gesehen. Das imposanteste waren sicherlich die Haie, welche spaeter von Delfinene angegriffen wurden. Spektakel pur mitten in der Nacht auf hoher See!!
Nun sind wir aber wieder heil an Land angekommen und begeben und langsam Richtung Outback, wo Schlangen, Spinnen und Krokodile auf uns warten!! Grrrrr...
What have we been up to you’re wondering? (Still not used to this blogging thing obviously! ….)
Well, since we left Bathurst we:
- Drove in and right back out of Byron Bay, we didn’t like it at all! It has this great reputation but everything about it is just trying to hard to live up and maintain it
- Hit up the Goldie (Gold Coast)- beaches and amusement parks. Met 2 really cool German guys in a parking lot and spent 2 days drinking way to much and having a great time.
- Met up again with our friends that we met in Santiago, Chris and Karina, on the sunshine coast and had the best time ever with them! Even though it rained everyday (on the “sunshine coast” go figure…) we had a great time sightseeing (I saw the pineapple plantation by dad worked at 30 years ago!), and had just way too much laughter, food and good times. Although we’ve met so many great people on this trip, its still rare to meet people like them whom you just click with, and even though we hadn’t seen them for months (Karina) it didn’t make any difference!! We miss you guys!!!
- Met the wild dolphins at Tin Can Bay. Went to Fraser Island, the biggest sand island in the world, and although we didn’t see any dingos, we swam in lake Mackenzie and the Eli River, and got absolutely destroyed by sandflies on the ferry home.
- Sailed the WhitSunday islands for 2 nights. Saw giant fish, sharks feeding on squid and dolphins chasing away the sharks, pure white beaches and crystal clear turquoise water, and last but not least.. Consumed copious amounts of goon!
- Camped around Townsville and went for a swim at Little Crystal Creek waterfall in the Paluma national park. Drove across the Outback through 100’s of km’s of nothing. Just flat, straight roads, but the sunsets and night skies are unbeatable and definitely incomparable! Not to mention the wonderful people we met on the way!
- And now….we have just traded in Shelly for a monster of a 4x4 (we complained a couple of months ago so Wicked hooked us up with the best that they have…and she’s NICE!) and once we celebrate my birthday we are off to tackle Western Australia baby!!!!!
